David J. McCallum was a Specialist 4th Class (Sp/4) in the U.S. Army. He was trained as a paratrooper and a medic, serving in Vietnam from December 1965 to December 1966 with the 1st Air Cavalry Division, specifically with the 1st Battalion 8th Cavalry (the 1st of the 8th – “Jumping Mustangs”). While on tour in Vietnam, he received the Purple Heart for a wound sustained in combat and earned the Combat Medical Badge. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, David earned his Associate’s degree at Peirce College and worked as an electrician and welder at a local utility company until his retirement. He currently resides in Delaware and enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren.
